Berth 5 Reclamation Works

As part of Shannon Foynes Port masterplan, Vision 2041, the Berth 5 Reclamation Works project has increased the port quay length by 21%, enabling the docking of larger vessels in line with international shipping trends.

MOR were engaged by Shannon Foynes Port Company to provide engineering design, site supervision, and contract management services for the upgrade of Berth 5.

Key components of the reclamation works included:

  • 148m of Piled Combi-Wall Structure: This included 1.829m diameter tubular piles with Arcelor AZ24-700 sheet piles driven between each tubular pile.
  • 30m Sheet Pile Quay Wall: Constructed on the western return.
  • 169m Sheet Piled Anchor Wall: Connected to the main quay wall piles using tie rods.
  • 1.03ha of Reclamation: Imported fill material created a general port working area, complete with associated revetments.
  • Surface Preparation, Services, and Drainage: For the reclaimed area.
  • High Mast Lighting Installation
  • Re-routing and Undergrounding of an Existing Molasses Pipeline

This project eliminated existing constraints on harbour operations and created additional space for storage and cargo handling near Berths 5 and 6.
