Malone O’Regan are delighted to be part of the renewable energy revolution in Ireland and were the designers for the 42ha Utility Scale Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage Facility at Monvallet Co. Louth which recently received a final grant of Planning Permission from Louth County Council. We carried out a design exercise to install PV Solar panels on the existing agricultural lands based on the topography, location, climate, aspect and site constraints using internationally recognised PV Design software packages. The solar farm design involved simulating multiple layout scenarios to establish the optimum solar panel configuration by determining the most efficient row spacing and tilt angle in order to achieve maximum output energy and providing accurate annual yield estimates. Malone O’Regan also prepared the Planning Application drawings for the project which included for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) consisting of 48 battery storage containers to facilitate power storage and release to the Grid at periods of peak demand through the EirGrid Substation at Monvallet. The operational lifespan of the Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System will be 35 years. Malone O’Regan are currently working on the design of Solar PV farms at various stages with a potential for generating in excess of 500MW of power which if delivered would be a significant boost to Ireland’s renewable energy generation targets.
